Solar Eclipse in Libra: Supercharge this Energy Using These 5 Yoga Asanas
Mark your calendars this week! Saturday, October 14th there will be an Annular Solar Eclipse in Libra!
But what the heck does this mean for you?!
Well, while it’s a beautiful celestial event that you get to witness in most of the country, astrologically there’s A LOT happening with this transit as well.
So let’s break down all the pieces of this celestial event – what an eclipse in Libra even means, how this eclipse can affect you, working with this energy on your mat, and where in the Klamath Basin you can enjoy this eclipse!
The Energy of a Solar Eclipse
Solar eclipses occur during the day when the moon crosses in front of the Sun, blocking it out for a period of time.
In many cultures, an eclipse is viewed as a time when the veil is thinner between this 3D world and realms beyond – making this an auspicious time for tapping into your intuition and higher guidance.
What areas in your life are calling for transformation? What do you want to manifest with this energy?
Those are the big questions during an eclipse. This eclipse energy lasts 6 months at a time, and usually, you’re able to feel that energy approaching a month or so before the actual eclipse.
Add a Pinch of Libra to the Mix
Libra is an air sign known for justice, balance and harmony – particularly within relationships of all kinds.
Libra asks, who am I within this relationship… and outside of it?
Blend this energy with the transformative energy of the solar eclipse and you’ll find yourself questioning and reevaluating your relationships in your life.
What relationships feel good to me?
What relationships feel draining?
Do my relationships feel balanced and in harmony?
Am I overgiving, at the expense of myself?
What am I being called to learn from these relationships?
How do I value and prioritize my relationship with myself?
Can I deepen into my relationship with myself?
You may be reading this line of questions thinking, this is a loaded transit. And, well, yes it is. We’re not going to sugar-coat it for you, this time may be a bit uncomfy.
Old relationship issues that have gone unresolved may begin to resurface at this time. Old thought patterns and beliefs about yourself may also resurface, creating a tender, raw, and emotional time.
But there is beauty in it, so don’t hold onto those fears too tightly.
This time can be incredibly transformative and catalytic if you allow it to be. Release your fears and come back to yourself during this time.
This doesn’t necessarily mean isolate yourself though. Actually, during this Libra transit, you’ll learn and grow most by examining those relationships head on, and by being within community. But that also means your relationship with yourself as well.
Not coincidentally, Libra will ask you to balance your external relationships with your own relationship to yourself. So take time to both surround yourself with your people, and time for yourself.
Embody this Eclipse on Your Mat
A solar eclipse can be thought of as more energizing and action-oriented than a lunar eclipse – like the sun! The sun correlates with the heart and solar plexus in the body specifically.
Libra rules over the kidneys, lower back, glutes, & skin.
On your mat, focusing your practice on opening through the heart, delicious spinal twists, & engagement in the core, glutes, & legs will supercharge this Solar Eclipse energy for you!
Here are just a few yoga asanas you can incorporate into your practice this week:
Wheel Pose
Urdhva Dhanurasana
Begin laying on your back and bring your feet to the mat, hip-distance apart. Bring your hands up, placing them by each shoulder, with your fingertips facing your shoulders. Draw your core in and as you exhale, push down through your feet and palms as you lift your hips, head, and back off the mat, turning your gaze behind you. Keep your chest and hips reaching up. When you’re ready to come out of the pose, bend through your arms and release your head to the mat first, then your back and hips.
Warrior I
Virabhadrasana I
From Downward-facing Dog, inhale your right leg up and exhale it to the top of your mat. As you do, bring your back foot down to the mat so your toes are pointing at an angle, almost toward the top corner of your mat. As you reach your arms forward and up, keep your hips facing the top of your mat as you sink down into your hips, creating a right-angle bend in your front knee. Switch sides when you’re ready.
Chair Pose
Utkatasana
Begin standing at the top of your mat. Bring your big toes together with some space between your heels. As you inhale, sink your hips back and down, as if sitting in a chair, and reach your arms overhead and alongside your ears. As you sink your hips, keep your chest lifting and open. Hold here for a few breaths.
Eagle Pose
Garudasana
Begin standing at the top of your mat with your feet hip-distance apart. Swing both your arms out, bringing them back toward your center with your right arm and elbow coming down on top of your left inner elbow and bicep. If you’re able, snaking your right forearm around your left and bringing the palms together. You’ll want to keep your elbows lifted while also keeping your ears out of your shoulders.
Once comfortable here, sink your hips down as if going into Chair Pose. Balancing, bring your right leg to cross over and on top of your left. If you’re able, tucking your right foot behind your left calf. Holding here for a few deep breaths.
Half Moon Pose
Ardha Chandra Chapasana
Begin standing on your mat. Bring your right hand down to either the mat or a block and lift your left leg toward the sky. As you exhale, open your hips to the left, stacking them on top of each other as your chest open to the left. Work to keep your left leg engaged and lifting as you balance on your right foot. Your left arm can rest on your hip or reach toward the sky. Switch sides whenever you’re ready.
Breathwork Practices
Breathwork can become a saving grace during this transit as it calls all your attention back to your breath and into your body, similar to an asana practice.
Using energizing breathwork can be helpful to embody the heat of this solar eclipse, while practicing more soothing breathwork techniques can help to calm and create harmony within you during the challenging or uncomfortable parts of this transit.
Give these poses and breathwork a try in your personal practice this week, or join us in the studio for eclipse-inspired flows and classes.
