Jupiter & Sagittarius New Moon Bring New Beginnings & New Opportunities

On November 23 we had a new moon in Sagittarius and Jupiter went direct (came out of retrograde) in Pisces. And I’m going to break down what all of that means… for you personally, & on the collective level.

First let’s dive into each individual aspect before we connect all the dots.

The Signs

Sagittarius is a fire sign well known for its love of travel, philosophy, worldly knowledge and curiosity. Being a fire sign, it’s all about action, drive, ambition, and at times, brutal honesty. It rules the 9th house which is all about travel to foreign countries, higher education, spirituality, and philosophy. So, Sagittarius in a chart house represents the aspect in your life where you’ll seek higher knowledge, perhaps extra curiosity in that part of life. Sagittarius is also a mutable sign, indicating a change-seeking and adventurous nature.

Pisces is a water sign known for intuition and spirituality, creativity, and imagination. Being a water sign its focus is all about the inner journey of self. It rules the 12th house of consciousness, dreams, isolation, confinement, and retreat. So, Pisces in a chart house would represent aspects of your life where you’ll seek introspection or even where intuition may be heightened. Pisces is also a mutable sign, being fluid and adaptive.

The Planets

A New Moon is when the sun and moon align in the same point in the sky. It is when the moon is dark and happens once a month, which resets the monthly lunar cycle. So as it suggests, New Moons are all about new beginnings. While the Full Moon asks us to reflect within, encouraging stillness, the New Moon is a great time for setting new goals and starting new plans.

Jupiter is a “personal planet” in astrology. This means that wherever Jupiter is placed in your chart correlates to you personally and your blueprint in life rather than on a collective level.

*For example: Pluto is a generational planet and stays in one sign for a generation. Pluto in Scorpio are what we consider “millennials”. So while Pluto placement is significant for you personally, it also speaks to the collective.

Jupiter is a planet about expansion, opportunity, luck, and joy, to name a few. It’s considered a benefic planet, meaning, most of the time (unless you have constricting aspects), wherever Jupiter is placed in your chart, this area of life can be fortuitous, abundant, and expansive.

Jupiter is also ruled by both Pisces and Sagittarius in classical astrology, meaning Jupiter is very comfortable in these signs … simplified: more expansive, joyful, and increased opportunities. In Sagittarius, Jupiter is go-getting and goal-oriented. In Pisces, there is more of an emotional and introspective tone, being that Pisces is a water sign.

Retrograde vs. Direct

When a planet is retrograde all that means is a period of slowing down, reflecting, on whatever the planet represents. Jupiter retrograde suggests that rather than this period of time being expansive and abundant, things slow down and you’re asked to re-evaluate what you actually want, what is valuable to you, and could even feel foggy and uncertain, again depending on which house (aka, area of life) Jupiter falls in your chart.

When a planet is direct, that means it is moving in its natural rhythm and is representing the aspects it is known for. So Jupiter direct means opportunities start coming in, next goals and action steps become clearer and there’s a drive to go out and get what you want.

Now let’s connect all these astrological dots & paint the picture…

Jupiter has been retrograde since July 28th. Think back over the last few months. Have you noticed perhaps ideas or plans that come to mind yet have remained in more of the planning stages during these last few months? Or perhaps you’ve been re-evaluating your beliefs, your dreams and desires. Due to its move into Pisces, you may also have found your emotions more heightened, planning more clouded, and dreams more vivid.

This past week, as Jupiter went direct, things will begin to feel more clear, with an increase in awareness and desire to take advantage of new opportunities. You'll also notice a nice surge of confidence, thanks to Jupiter. Being a New Moon as well, this adds an extra dose of action as we feel renewed and ready to plant new seeds and reach new goals.

Pisces will still ask us for reflective time and stillness as emotions are heightened with Jupiter in Pisces. This can be great in deepening current relationships and connecting more emotionally with others. Nevertheless, continue to be patient with your need to slow down or take time to process and reflect at times… and pay attention to your dreams, there could be a message or two from your subconscious.

How you can take advantage of this time

Take time to reflect

While Jupiter will provide a sense of clarity around your goals, Pisces will continue to ask you to reflect first. Practicing meditation or mindfulness each day can help you find that stillness. At Sol Luna Yoga, Ascend will be a perfect class for you to be guided into stillness.

Write down your dreams

Pisces influence can create some wild dreams at night. Even if they are difficult to decipher in the moment, writing them down and reading them back in the future can produce more clarity in what your subconscious is communicating. In the stillness of dreamtime your subconscious is providing you answers to the goals and plans you have in waking time.

Make plans - dream big

Feed the fires of the New Moon and Jupiter and take action on plans you’ve developed. Look out for opportunities that arise for you during this time - some may be more subtle than others, so remain open-minded and optimistic.

While these are simple steps to take advantage of these astrological placements, always remember to listen to your own inner guidance. Rest when your spirit asks you to rest, and take action when you sense that inner drive. Sometimes understanding the astrological placements simply validates the experience you’re having, and that can always be enough.
